Arsenal captain, Laurent Koscielny would be leaving the club to join French side, Girondins Bordeaux.

Koscielny joined the club from Lorent in 2010 and has been a loyal servant.

In a statement released on Arsenal’s website, the club revealed they sanctioned the move ‘once we agreed acceptable transfer terms.’

The saga surrounding the Frenchman’s situation has been ongoing for all of the summer since he refused to go on tour with the club. Reports from several quarters indicated that he wanted to leave the club and had asked the club to terminate his contract.

This request was reportedly rejected by the club and this irked the player and prompted his refusal to go on tour with the rest of the squad. The rumours making the rounds was that the club would not sanction the move if a fee was not involved. Some quarters also said Koscielny believed he had an agreement to that effect which was not honoured.

He was also said to be unhappy at how his workload had been handled following his return from a serious Achilles injury, while being concerned at the direction in which the club was headed.

This caused the standoff which has now been resolved as the player finally gets to move home after 9 years abroad. There were reports that Head Coach, Unai Emery was keen to have him remain at the club but that attempt was snubbed by the player.

He had his medical today at his new club, Bordeaux who have also released a statement welcoming him to their club.

“[We are] delighted to be able to count on a player with such experience at the highest level,” Bordeaux’s statement read.

The transfer is believed be worth between five and six million euros.
