The Premier League rule change which is bad news for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

There are a number of new rules to look out for during the 2019/2020 Premier League season.

For the first time ever a winter break will take place in the top flight of English football, with every club from Arsenal to Wolves – handed a two-week break in the fixture list.

In addition, there are also new handball rules coming into play, as well as the introduction of VAR which is likely to cause debates up and down the country.

Furthermore, a new rule with regard to finishing positions in the Premier League table has been introduced with teams that finish level on the same points then their head-to-head record will be brought into play.

Ahead of the Premier League kick-off next week, the manner of substitutions have now been altered in a bid to avoid teams running down the clock.

But there is another rule that appears to have gone under the radar and it’s bad news for Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

A statement via The International Football Association Board reads:

“A YC [yellow card] for an ‘illegal’ celebration (e.g. removing the shirt) remains even if the goal is disallowed

“Cautions for inappropriate goal celebrations apply even if the goal is disallowed as the impact (safety, image of the game etc.) is the same as if the goal was awarded.”

As seen in the image above, Aubameyang donned the Black Panther mask when celebrating a goal against Rennes in the Europa League clash last season.

He was booked for doing so and would suffer the same fate in the Premier League this season should he repeat it.
