Arrived back home in time from Asaba after the AiteoCup Final to watch Arsenal take on Sporting Lisbon. Here are my four quick takes from the hard earned 1-0 away win in Portugal
– Arsenal keep struggling in the first half
As the case has been all season, Arsenal have failed to dominate games in the opening period. Against Sporting Lisbon the boys looked piss poor in the first half, unable to build attack from the back, lacked cohesion in midfield and naive in the final third.
Crystal Palace and Liverpool will not allow us the will to comeback and play some amazing football in the second half if we don’t get our acts right as regards starting a game on the front foot.
– Guendouzi Still Can’t Break The Xhaka-Torreira Combo
For all of his talent, Matteo Guendouzi isn’t still ripe for the first team, evidence in his display vs Sporting Lisbon. Guendouzi held too long to the ball at his feet and look indecisive with his passes but just like the team in the second half, his game improved but still not up to the level of gaining a spot in the first team.
In stark contrast to what Torreira offers the team, it will be difficult to see Guendouzi relegating Torreira to the bench as Emery seems to rate Xhaka so much. A reminder that the Swiss is now being deployed at left back
– Dat Guy Welbz
Say whatever you like of him, truth is Danny Welbeck alongside Alex Iwobi are players who have improved under Unai Emery.
On a difficult evening in Portugal, went it looked like the “WWWWW” will turn “WWWWD”. The English intl stepped up to the occasion after combining well with Aubameyang and powering a right footed strike underneath the goalkeeper. Aside his goal, Welbeck had looked a shining light all night and good to see him gets the winner. He might go on to start vs Crystal Palace on Sunday.
– Scrappy Win But Do You Care??
If you care, then here is the mail to send your displeasure to, firstname.lastname@example.org
Smiles, whatever the case maybe, all we do is Win Win Win Win, no matter what!
The winning mentality continues and rightly so it’s 11wins consecutively but the big test starts from Crystal Palace then Liverpool, sandwich between is Blackpool. Can we make it 14wins on the bounce??. Yes, we can if we believe in our winning mentality.
Back on sunday as it’s the London Derby on Sunday at Selhurst Park vs Crystal Palace.
Until then, enjoy the weekend. #COYG
