Pierre Emerick Aubameyang would be in a much sharper position against Manchester City in the League Cup Final than he was against Spurs two weeks ago. This is the view of Manager – Arsene Wenger.
Aubameyang, who joined Arsenal towards the end of the January Transfer Window has featured for the club twice – impressing against Everton whilst struggling against Tottenham.
He couldn’t feature for the club in the Europa League as he was cup-tied, and Wenger believes this rest would put him in a much better position than he was in a fortnight ago.
“He has only played twice but on the other hand when he came here he had not played for a while,” said Wenger. “He was not at his best physically and we took advantage of the last two weeks to build him up physically.
“I think he will be much sharper than he was. You could see day after day that he is much sharper than he was two or three weeks ago.”
Wenger however believes the lack of game time might mean he’s yet to understand his new colleagues fully.
“It’s not ideal,” the Frenchman continued. “But I think his great strengths are his finishing, the quality of his runs and his pace, of course.
“Our target on Sunday will be to find him two or three times each half in dangerous positions because he is sharp now.
“The handicap is that we have not played a lot with him but his runs are so clever that I think we have players who can find him.”
