Following the recent arrival of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang from Borrusia Dortmund, Alexandre Lacazette’s Arsenal career is as good as over. This is according to former midfielder, Emmanuel Petit.
Aubameyang, who was signed for £57.5million last week went straight into the match day squad against Everton and made an instant impact. This was at the expense of Alexandre Lacazette who has been struggling for form recently.
The Frenchman has scored just once in his last 12 games for the Gunners and has nine goals in the Premier League this season. This poor run of form, Petit believes, has caused Wenger to lose faith in him.
“Aubameyang’s signing tells me it might already be too late. Arsene Wenger’s belief in Lacazette has gone,” Petit told The Sun.
“He needs to improve or face the exit this summer”, he continued. “After six months his statistics are not exactly tremendous. Auba is exactly the man Arsenal need.”
Whether Arsene Wenger feels that way remains to be seen, but then, while it is obvious Lacazette has not been at his best recently, to suggest that the recent acquisition of Aubameyang will signal the end of his career at Arsenal is just ludicrous.
Time will tell though.
