A bit of bad news this morning for fans who hope to see Thomas Lemar in Arsenal colours – the deal is ‘dead’ and probably buried according to manager, Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal had reportedly tabled two bids for the 21-year old earlier this summer, both of which were rejected by his club – AS Monaco. Also, there were reports earlier in the week that the French club might soften their stance on the player and let him leave. With Wenger’s comments now, that might look like fake news.
The fact that PSG are working on signing young striker Kylian Mbappe and Fabiano might have damaged Arsenal’s chances of getting their target too.
‘It’s dead,’ Wenger said when asked if a move was still possible.
‘Monaco have closed the door definitely because there are ongoing cases with Mbappe and Fabinho.
‘They lost Mendy, Silva and Bakayoko so Monaco are at the stage where they have closed the door.
‘We have the numbers and quality to deal with that.’
Although Lemar is said to be keen on amove to Arsenal, that might not happen again this summer.
But with Arsene Wenger, never say never. This is the same man who told journalists he didn’t know Santi Cazorla only to sign him some days later.
Fingers crossed with regards to this deal.
