Newcastle boss, Rafa Benitez has confirmed the Tyneside club are weighing up a deal for Arsenal outcast, Lucas Perez.
The player who joined Arsenal from La Liga side, Deportivo La Coruna is set to leave the club after failing to seal his place in the team.
His agent, Fernando Rodriguez Lovelle had told reporters last week there are several clubs from all around Europe looking to sign his client – with Newcastle being one.
This has now been confirmed by Rafa Benitez who admitted his likeness for his compatriot. Speaking after his sides 2- 0 victory over Verona on Sunday, the former Liverpool boss said he knows what to do in order to get his target.
“I like the player because I have good friends in La Coruña,” said Benitez.
“I know that he did really well. He’s come here and not played in many games, but I like the player.
“We know what we need and will try to do it until the end of the transfer window.
With a move now a matter of when, Gooners wouldn’t begrudge the player a move away as he always delivers whenever he was called upon.
Shame his Arsenal career didn’t go as he would have expected.
