French international, Alexandre Lacazette’s transfer to Arsenal is all but done after the mive was confirmed by club president – Jean-Michelle Aulas.
Speaking to French news outlet, Le Progres, the loquacious president said the deal which will set Arsenal back by about €50 million will be concluded in about 2 – 3 days.
“The deal will happen for something between €45 and €50 million. To be close to €50m is something unique, and will be a record for Arsenal and a record for Lyon,” Aulas said.
“One must also take into account that traditionally, a club like Arsenal do not have the habit of spending so much for one player.”
According to Aulas, Arsenal’s first bid was in the region of €45m. He also went ahead to debunk claims by some English News outlet on the exact cost of procuring Lacazette.
“The €67m announced by English sources and relayed was an impossible and not realistic sum,” he continued.
If the move does indeed come to fruition, it will eclipse the club record fee Arsenal paid Real Madrid for the services of Mesut Ozil in 2013.
Lacazette was rumoured to have favoured joining Atletico Madrid before the Spanish club were hit with a transfer ban. This put Arsenal in pole position and to see how swiftly they have acted is impressive.
Whether the player will hit the ground running in the most difficult league in the world remains to be seen, but if words from France are to be believed, Arsenal will be getting a striker who would suit their style of play.
