Yaya Sanogo and 3 other academy players will leave the club when their contract expires this summer.
Sanogo, who joined Arsenal in 2013 had a torrid time at the club appearing just 20 times over 4 years. Sanogo didn’t score at all in the Premier League. His only goal for Arsenal came in the Champions League against Borrusia Dortmund.
Despite his limited playing time, Yaya Sanogo played a somewhat key role in the FA Cup win over Hull in 2014.
That was supposed to be a catalyst for a better future, but it didn’t quite materialize as the striker was loaned to Crystal Palace in the January 2015. He was on the scoresheet for Palace as they defeated Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round.
The French Youth International also had loan spells at Ajax AFC (where he scored a hat trick in a 6 – 1 friendly win against Qatari side, Umm Salal SC) and Charlton Athletic (where he scored another hat-trick in a 3–4 loss against Reading).
It’s fair to say the Sanogo epxeriment at Arsenal didn’t quite succeed and he would go down as one of Wenger’s worst signing.
The other three players released are academy players – Stefan O’Connor, Kristopher da Graca and Kostas Pileas. Of the three, only O’Connor made a senior appearance for Arsenal, during a Champions League clash with Galatasaray in 2014.
