Following Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s sterling performance against Southampton, Arsene Wenger has predicted that the England international will metamorphose into a central midfielder in future.
The Ox’s performance drew a lot of praise from all around and some even comapred him to Italian legendary midfielder – Andrea Pirlo.
Joining in the praise of the player is Arsene Wenger who says he is good both on the flank and in the centre.
Speaking at his pre-match conference, Wenger said, ‘‘I think he’s a good flank player and a good central player.’
‘But the future, personally I would say is more central than on the flank for him.
‘When you’re young you want to push towards the flank. Why? because central demands more experience, more tactical planning.
‘Naturally, I think he is comfortable to be always involved.’
These are really glowing praises for someone some folks think is useless to the team.
However, it is one thing for a player to be praised this much, it is another thing for the same player to be actually given the chance to show what he can do.
Whether Oxlade-Chamberlain gets the chance to shine in that midfield role remains to be seen, but that said, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have him there on Tuesday against Watford.
