The encomium showers coming the way of Ozil is not news. Almost everyone in the football community appreciates this footballing genius, apart from some English media doucheheads like Neil Ashton and Stan Collymore.
Robert Pires has joined the group of former players who have showered praises on the German, with the Frenchman joining Arsene Wenger to call him the new Bergkamp.
Speaking to the Arsenal Official Website, Pires said something has clicked for the midfield masetro as that can only be the explanation for his new vein of form.
“Something has clicked,” Pires said. “What’s happened in the head is like a click because he’s scored a lot of goals.
“This is a difference between the last season with Mesut Ozil and now because he’s thinking just for himself, and sometimes when you are in front of the target it is very important to score a goal.
“Mesut has very good qualities, he can normally score a minimum of 12 goals during the Premier League so in my time the maestro was Dennis Bergkamp, and now it is Mesut Ozil.
“I love them both because they play very good football but they play for the team. Not for himself, they play for the team. This point is very important for the future and of course for Arsenal.”
Bergkamp is called ‘god’ by Arsenal fans and to categorize Ozil in his category is no small feat. Let’s hope he continues to mesmerize us with his skills!
There are also reports that the German is close to signing a new contract at Arsenal which will make the club’s top earner. The Mirror reports that Ozil wants to stay at the club and this new deal will see him pocket around £200,000 a week.
