Arsenal’s reward for easing past Reading in the 4th Round of the EFL Cup is a visit by Southampton to the Emirates. The Saints defeated Sunderland in their 4th Round clash courtesy of a goal from their record signing, Sofiane Boufal.
The last time both sides met in the competition was in the 3rd Round two years ago, and the Saints were the victorious side on that occasion.
Arsenal made it to the final of the competition in 2007 and 2011 losing to Chelsea and Birmingham respectively. The Gunner were eliminated by Sheffield Wednesday in last year’s edition and last won the competition in 1993. As a matter of fact, Arsene Wenger has never won the competition.
Southampton on the other hand have never won the competition.
Liverpool who defeated our neighbours, Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Leeds United while West Ham United face a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United who knocked out their ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City courtesy of a Juan Mata goal.
The last tie in the Quarter Final is between 4th Round highest scoring side, Newcastle United and Hull City to be played at the KC Stadium.
These set of matches will be played on either November 29 or 30.
