Arsenal were in a destructive mood last night in the UEFA Champions League putting six behind their helpless opponents from Bulgaria- PFC Ludogorets. Goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and a Mesut Ozil hat trick sealed the deal.
In this piece, I look at how the players performed and attempt to rate them on a scale of 1 – 10.
GK: David Ospina – 7/10
David Ospina had little to do yesterday, but, whenever he was required to take action, he did so in style. There were few of such moments such as when Mustafi was uncharacteristically caught out and he had to rush out to smother the ball off the Cafu’s feet and when he had to save Wanderson’s angular shot
RB: Hector Bellerin – 7/10
When Santi Cazorla said Bellerin is the right back for the future, he was only 20% correct. This lad is the right back for the present. He was never caught out once and did what was required of him perfectly well.
Did you know: Hector Bellerin completed 82% of his total passes against Ludogorets.
CB: Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny – 7/10
Though a bit shaky in the first half, KOSTAFI grew into the game with confidence giving their oppponent’s danger men no chance at all. This pairing is the best in the world at the moment. Yeah, I just said it.
Did you know: Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi jointly made 6 tackles and 7 interceptions against Ludogorets
LB: Kieran Gibbs – 7/10
It was great to see Kieran Gibbs get game time and you could say he came out with flying colours. This lad is a full professional and I am certain he would get more games as the season progresses. He was spot on with his tackles and his attacking play further up the pitch was a joy to watch.
Did you know: Kieran Gibbs made 6 tackles and blocked 2 crosses against Ludogorets.
MF: Francis Coquelin – 8/10
Francis Coquelin’s display shows why he’s ahead of Elneny and Xhaka in the team. The corporal was diligent in his work of shielding the defence. He could have gotten his name on the assist chart when he played Walcott in only for the winger’s shot to be saved by the opposition goalkeeper.
Did you know: Francis Coquelin made 13 ball recoveries, completed 93% of his passes, made 6 interceptions and was successful with 75% of his tackles.
MF: Santi Cazorla – 8/10
Santi Cazorla is a delight to watch as he dictated the play from midfield. What a delightful pass for Mesut Ozil’s first goal! There is nothing much to say about the Little Magician. He oozes class.
Did you know: Santi Cazorla completed 78% of his passes in the Final Third in the game against Ludogorets.
MF: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 8/10
The Ox has been the subject of fans’ criticisms recently and I’m afraid, they are all justified. So I wasn’t surprised with his display yesterday – that was the display of a guy desperate to save his career. I am pleased he got a goal and an assist his effort deserved.
Did you know: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain created 4 chances yesterday and had 83% Take-on success rate.
MF: Theo Walcott – 9/10
Theo Walcott is on fire and he is the most in-form player in the team at the moment. The confidence with which he took the shot for that goal is amazing. If not for some brilliant goalkeeping and his profligacy, there was nothing stopping him from getting a minimum of 4 goals yesterday. His link up play with Ozil and Sanchez is commendable.
Did you know: Theo Walcott had 5 attempts at goal last night with 3 on target.
MF: Mesut Ozil – 10/10
Three goals, One assist, two chances created – last night perfect for Mesut Ozil. The way he controlled Cazorla’s pass for his first goal was orgasmic. The second and third goals were sumptuous. Those goals showed us a player who now finds scoring goals more fun than assisting.
Did you know: Mesut Ozil scored his first ever professional hat trick vs Ludogorets.
FW: Alexis Sanchez – 9/10
Alexis Sanchez – what else can we say about the man from Tocopila. I think we have a formidable front line in the SOW. We must do whatever it takes to keep this guy!
Did you know: Alexis Sanchez created tow chances from open play last night.
MF: Mohammed Elnenny 7/10
MF: Alex Iwobi 7/10
FW: Lucas Perez 8/10
