Now that the transfer window has officially closed till January 1st, it’s time to look at theArsenal’s dealings all through.
6 players joined the club this summer, which is a massive increase when compared to last summer, where goalkeeper – Petr Cech was the only signing. Swiss international, Granit Xhaka was the first summer signing, joining from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee reported to be in the region of £35 million. Defender Shkodran Mustafi, a world cup winner with Germany joined from Valencia for around £35 million. Another defender, Rob Holding joined from League 2 side, Bolton Wanderers for £2 million while Spanish striker, Lucas Perez signed from Deportivo La Coruna setting the club back by £17 million.
Takuma Asano and Kelechi Nwakali were signed from Hiroshima Sanfreece and Diamond Football Academy respectively for a combined fee of around £8 million.
As there are incomings at the club, we also had players leaving for other clubs either on loan or permanently.
Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all left the club at the expiration of their contracts. Mike Arteta has since linked up with Pep Guardiola at Premier League rivals, Manchester City to become one of their first team coaches. Tomas Rosicky was re-signed by his former club Sparta Prague while Mathieu Flamini is yet to find a club (Sorry Flam!).
Serge Gnabry, Wellington Silva and Isaac Hayden couldn’t fulfil their potentials at Arsenal and have since left permanently for Werder Bremen, Fluminense and Newcastle respectively. Joel Campbell and Calum Chambers were both flogged off to Sporting Lisbon and Middlesbrough respectively.
The most surprising transfer involving the club was the loan move of Jack Wilshere to AFC Bournemouth (Who would have ‘thunk’ that?). The player left Arsenal in search of first team football after coming to the realization that he migh not get enough game time at the club this season considering the number of players the club has in the position he plays.
Now that the transfer window is officially closed, we can now focus on the season proper. We will know as the season progresses if the players signed are going to be a success, we can however hope they bring success to the team this season.
Come On You Gunners!
