Liverpool will kick off their league campaign against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium on Sunday.
Without mincing words, it’s no exaggeration that clashes between these two teams have always been an epic affair while sometimes it could be dramatic as these two giants have a great tradition and history. With both fixtures involving these two heavyweights ending in 0-0 and 3-3 draw last season, the clash between them is definitely one to watch as the Premier League kick-starts for the new season this weekend.
Liverpool had a fairly good run in the pre-season winning 6 of their 9 games with four of the wins coming against English lower league sides, the rest two being the 2-0 over AC Milan and the 4-0 thumping of Barcelona with the losses coming against top sides like Chelsea, Roma and ofcourse Mainz.
With the addition of few players, most notably Sadio Mané and Georginio Wijnaldum, Liverpool looks a bit stronger as these two in particular are expected to add spice to the technical ability and forward play of the team. Arsenal might have to put in some brave defending(a position they seems to be having crisis in right now) as both players were only behind Mahrez in the top scoring midfielders Premier League chart for 2015/2016 season. The only consolation for Arsenal would be that all of Wijnaldum’s goals came from home at Saint James’ Park scoring none on away ground.
England striker, Daniel Sturridge is a doubt for this game while newly signed goalkeeper, Loris Karius will definitely miss out.
TACTICS AND POSSIBLE LINE-UP
Jurgen Klopp is expected to go with a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 formation depending on how the team shapes up with or without possession.
Mignolet should retain his No 1 spot in goal as Ragnar Klavan would most likely be in for Mamadou Sakho who was sent home during pre-season due to indiscipline.
Mané and Wijnaldum could both make their Premier League debuts for their new club Liverpool forming a formidable attacking trio with Philippe Coutinho and Firmino starting upfront ahead of Origi and out of favour Christian Benteke.
