Arsenal goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny is set to move to Italian Serie A, side AS Roma after the Poland international was excluded from Arsenal’s summer tour squad.

According to Gazetta World, the move was delayed as a result of  Roma’s desire to secure the future of goalkeeping coach Guido Nanni and Arsenal’s unwillingness to sanction the move without first sorting the future of back-up goalkeeper David Ospina whom Besiktas are reportedly after.

Szczesny fell out of favour in the 2014/2015 season after a series of uninspiring performances most notably the 2 – 0 defeat to Southampton. He lost his place to Colombian David Ospina in the second half of the season and further fell down the pecking order when Czech Republic’s goalkeeper Petr Cech was signed from Chelsea last summer.

According to reports, he is set to join on another loan deal but with an option to purchase him outright at the end of the season for a fee that is yet to be disclosed, with reports claiming both clubs will each pay a portion of his €3 million per season wages.

The Pole made 34 appearances for the Italian giants over the course of 2015/16  Serie A season conceding 34 goals and keeping 8 clean sheets in the process. He is thought to favour a return to the capital.

An Arsenal fan since God-knows-when. Cool, loving and fun to be with. Hater of Chelsea, Tottenham (nothing to hate about them but I hate them anyway) and now Manchester United (depending on how 'moureen' comports himself)
